The Master comments: “My installation ceremony and dinner was an unforgettable evening and the start of my year to continue the good work of Masters before me. There are three main objectives as Master. Firstly to raise awareness of the Company and the importance of building in the UK economy and merchant’s role in it. Based in the heart of the City, we are fortunate to have the ear of influential figures throughout the Livery and attend many events and occasions where we can emphasise the key role of builders’ merchants and their suppliers in supplying Britain’s building needs.
“Secondly is promoting and increasing our charitable fund. It’s an area very close to my heart too. I have been actively fund raising for different charities for over thirty years, and
last year I was proud to be awarded the BEM for it. My motto is: “think of others first and the world will be a better place”. The WCoBM donates a significant amount to training and
education in the merchant industry. Our close links with the IoBM and BMF enables us to support and recognise the achievements of young merchants. We also support the Lord
Mayor’s Appeal and a range of other worthy charities. “Last but not least, we encourage members to get involved and attend events. The WCoBM provides an excellent and ongoing platform for our members and their guests to network. It’s ‘probably’ the best networking platform in the industry for senior industry people to meet, build relationships, and exchange information and views. Events are hosted in historic Livery Halls and other prestigious venues in the City to encourage networking between merchant and supplier members and their guests in some fantastic and unique locations.
“During my year as Master I will do my best to continue the momentum built up by previous Masters and get the industry’s message across to senior and influential people. I will ensure the Company remains active and well founded, and is a key driver in helping to bring about a thriving and prosperous industry.”
