At our recent Election Court General, WCoBM welcomed seven new Liverymen. The Installation took place on board HQS Wellington – an historic warship moored at Victoria Embankment in London. Our Livery now stands at 210 active Liverymen and 25 Freemen. Membership is by invitation only.
Among the new Liverymen are familiar faces in the industry (L-R): Peter Hallitt, Trading Director Marshalls plc; Alistair McAuley, Managing Director UK & Ireland, Decorative Paints & UK Country Director AkzoNobel; Keith Barker, Managing Director Wienerberger UK; Richard Bagnall, Managing Director Robbins Timber; Lucyanne Matthews, Associate Publisher Builders’ Merchants News; Kevin Parr, Managing Director PGS Team Ltd and Jonathan Crean, Commercial Director VIP Polymers.
The Master Pippa Latham comments: “It’s fantastic to be part of a Livery Company that represents so many active members from in our industry. Our membership is healthy and growing and we are constantly looking at ways the Company can evolve so it remains relevant for our industry, but without compromising core traditions and values. We encourage all our members to attend our many networking events, support the Company’s fundraising activities, and embrace the opportunities associated with being part of a Modern Livery Company!”
WCoBM represents all parts of the industry and members include leading figures in merchants, manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, buying groups, service suppliers and ancillary trades. The Livery Company plays an important role in the builders’ merchant sector, supporting training & education for builders’ merchants and fundraising for a number of charities. It is also very active in supporting the Mayoralty and raising the profile of builders’ merchants in the City.
More recently WCoBM launched its new bursary programme. Working with the Rainy Day Trust and supported by merchant buying society NMBS, the funding is open to students, apprentices in the industry, or employees working with a builders’ merchant or with a supplier of building materials who require support to help further their careers and learning.
