Major Peter Oweh was appointed to be Honorary Common Cryer and Serjeant at Arms by the Court of Aldermen on 6 December 2022. Major Oweh succeeds Colonel Geoffrey Godbold OBE, who has retired.
Major Oweh is an officer in the Army Cadet Force and served as Army ADC to the Lord Mayor from 2015 to 2017. He is also a current Marshal for the Lord Mayor’s Show. He founded and coordinates the annual Lord Mayor’s Cadet Music Award.
For many years John Davies, Keeper of the Walbrook Hall entrance at Mansion House, has deputised in the role of Common Cryer and Serjeant at Arms at meetings of the Court of Common Council, and on other occasions. John too has decided it is time to retire from his mace-carrying duties.
The Corporation is hugely grateful for the contributions made by Geoffrey and John in these capacities over more than fifteen years. Nina Tsindides, Keeper of the Mansion House, will take on John’s ceremonial responsibilities and will deputise for Major Oweh at meetings of Common Council. Nina carried the Mace at the meeting of the Court on 8 December 2022 – she is the first woman to do so.
