Charity work and Philanthropy is a central tenet of the Livery Movement, and something the Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants strongly believes in.

As a leading organisation within the builders’ merchant and construction industry, we work to support a wide range of charitable organisations, both within our own industry, and in the wider community. All the charities we support fall within four different charity groups:

• The Builders’ Merchants Industry

• The City of London

• The Company

• General charities

In 2023 we donated more than £100,000 to worthy causes around the country, both from our Main Charity Fund and from a separate fund specifically for Education and Training.

We receive a large number of requests and appeals from many different charities and individuals, all of which are carefully assessed to decide who to support and how much to donate. This is all done within certain parameters and within a budget prepared by our Bursar, overseen by our Charities & Education Committee.
